Pakistan Humiliated by India: Former Spinner Criticises Team

Cricketing drama reached its peak long before match day, as Pakistan initially announced a boycott of their T20 World Cup clash against India, only to step onto the field in Colombo at the last moment. The result, however, was predictable and painful: Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals. Former Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria did not mince words, stating, “Truthfully, perhaps it would have been less humiliating to have withdrawn.”

In the Group A fixture of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan was bowled out for 114 in response to India’s 175, losing by 61 runs. The contest never truly materialised on the field; the hype that had surrounded the fixture off the pitch fizzled once play began. Pakistan’s batting faltered at every stage, and the team was unable to challenge India’s well-coordinated attack.

The loss has triggered severe criticism within Pakistan, particularly from former cricketers. Kaneria posted on X (formerly Twitter) after the match, echoing the disappointment felt across the cricketing community. Former batsman and commentator Ramiz Raja highlighted Pakistan’s lack of progress, remarking, “This was a disaster, especially with the bat! India has been using similar bowling strategies against Pakistan for the past two or three years, and every time, our batsmen have delivered substandard performances. No improvement whatsoever.”

On Pakistani channel A-Sports, ex-batsman Basit Ali went further, condemning the team’s overall lack of competitiveness and strongly criticising the decision to promote Babar Azam to the fourth batting position.

International observers also took note of Pakistan’s weak showing. Former England captain Michael Vaughan commented, “Pakistan could not handle the pressure against a highly skilled team like India. India’s players excel in all departments and are far more mentally equipped to cope with high-stakes matches.”

Indian legends were equally outspoken. Anil Kumble told ESPN Cricinfo, “This was never a contest. India’s bowlers executed their plans brilliantly. The pitch was used effectively, as Hardik did from the start, and Jasprit Bumrah performed at an exceptional level.” Former pacer Irfan Pathan, speaking on Geo Hotstar, added, “There is no real competition left between India and Pakistan on the field. The rivalry is now sustained largely by off-field hype.”

Pakistan vs India T20 World Cup 2026 – Match Summary

Team Runs Wickets Lost Top Performer
India 175 6 Hardik Pandya 56*
Pakistan 114 10 Mohammad Rizwan 42

The defeat highlights a growing concern over Pakistan’s inability to compete against top-tier teams, signalling a need for introspection and structural improvements if the team hopes to restore its former stature on the international stage.
