Following recent terrorist attacks in Islamabad and Waziristan, Pakistan has issued a warning of possible operations inside Afghanistan targeting specific locations. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif accused the Afghan Taliban of providing shelter to armed groups behind attacks in Pakistan and stated that the possibility of cross-border operations cannot be ruled out.
On Tuesday (November 11), Pakistani media outlet Geo News reported this information. The incident has caused high tension in the nuclear-armed South Asian country.
In the Geo News program, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif rejected the Afghan Taliban government’s condemnation of the attacks as “unbelievable.” He said, “The groups sheltered by the Taliban repeatedly attack us.” He also expressed doubts about the success of negotiations with the Afghan Taliban government. Asif stated, “The leadership in Kabul could stop terrorism in Pakistan if it wanted, but the message for the Islamabad attack came from Kabul.”
At least 12 people were killed and over 30 injured in the Islamabad suicide bombing. In response, Khawaja Asif posted, “We are in a kind of war. Those who think the Pakistan Army is only fighting in border areas will have their eyes opened by this suicide attack in Islamabad.”
He added that this anti-terror fight is a “war for all of Pakistan,” and the sacrifices of the army provide security to the nation. The Defense Minister stated that if India or Afghanistan shows audacity, Pakistan will respond equally. He emphasized that Pakistan will never initiate aggression, but any attack on it will receive a strong response.
Speaking to journalists in the capital, he said that the Islamabad attack sent a clear message to Pakistan—“all your territories are within our reach.” He further stated that Pakistan will not tolerate terrorism at the border or in any city, and every attack will be met with a strong response.
