Following Pakistan’s government announcement to boycott its upcoming Twenty20 World Cup clash against India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) swiftly intervened to avert a diplomatic and sporting crisis. ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khaja travelled to Pakistan yesterday to hold urgent talks with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam, in a bid to prevent the boycott.
According to reports from Telecom Asia Sport, the PCB outlined three conditions for reconsidering its decision during a marathon meeting lasting over five hours on Sunday night. While India’s Hindustan Times and NDTV reported the conditions, the details differ slightly between sources.
Pakistani media acknowledged the ICC-PCB-BCB discussions but did not explicitly confirm whether the PCB had formally issued conditions. Geo News reported that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif within the next one to two days to clarify the government’s final stance on the India match. A definitive decision regarding the match, scheduled for 15 February, is expected shortly thereafter.
According to Hindustan Times, citing Telecom Asia Sport, the PCB proposed three key conditions to reconsider the boycott:
Increased Revenue Share – Pakistan seeks a higher financial allocation from the ICC than its current annual share.
Resumption of India-Pakistan Bilateral Series – Since 2013, the two nations have not played a bilateral series due to India’s reluctance. Pakistan hopes to revive this format.
Improved Player Conduct – During the 2025 Asia Cup, Indian players reportedly refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts. PCB insists that such respectful conduct be ensured in future encounters.
Simultaneously, NDTV reported that Pakistan also presented three Bangladesh-centric conditions, reflecting BCB concerns:
Compensation to Bangladesh – For the abrupt relocation of World Cup matches to Sri Lanka.
Participation Fee for Bangladesh – Covering costs associated with the T20 World Cup.
Future Hosting Rights – Assurance that Bangladesh can host future ICC tournaments.
These conditions were prompted by ICC’s refusal to accommodate Bangladesh’s request to move its matches, which led to its temporary exclusion from the tournament. Pakistan’s boycott announcement subsequently triggered ICC intervention to safeguard the integrity of the World Cup schedule.
Summary of Pakistan’s Conditions for India Match
| No. | Condition Type | Details |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Financial | Increase Pakistan’s annual ICC revenue share |

With the ICC actively mediating and Pakistan setting clear conditions, the cricketing world now awaits a final announcement in the coming days regarding one of the sport’s most high-profile fixtures.
