Party leaders welcomed Tarique Rahman in Gulshan

Two days after returning to Bangladesh following a 17-year period of exile, Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), officially resumed office with the party’s standing committee members in Dhaka.

Rahman arrived at the BNP chairman’s Gulshan office at precisely 1:42 pm on Sunday, 28 December. His arrival marked a significant moment for the party, signalling both the return of its senior leadership and the beginning of organisational activities in the capital.

Upon reaching the office, he was warmly received by senior standing committee members, including Mirza Abbas, Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Selima Rahman, who greeted him with floral tributes.

Alongside these key leaders, several other prominent figures were present to extend their welcome, including: Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the senior joint secretary general of BNP; Moudud Hossain Alomgir Pavel, convener of the media cell; Mahadi Amin, advisor to the acting chairman; officials of the chairman’s office; and party leaders from Bogura district.

Following an exchange of greetings and well-wishes, Tarique Rahman proceeded to the second floor, where he entered his designated chamber to begin work. For the acting chairman, a separate office has been arranged at the central Nayapaltan headquarters. The central office also houses distinct chambers for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

In addition, an apartment in Gulshan has been rented to oversee all activities and preparations for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections. Party sources indicate that this residence will serve as a strategic hub for election planning and coordination.
