PCB Moves Tri-Series to Rawalpindi Following Suicide Attack in Islamabad

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a major reshuffle in the upcoming tri-nation ODI series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, shifting all matches from Lahore to Rawalpindi. The decision follows a suicide bombing in Islamabad earlier this week that killed 12 people and injured 27.

Following the incident, PCB had already postponed the remaining two ODIs of the Pakistan–Sri Lanka series by one day. Now, citing “logistical and operational considerations” as well as mutual agreement between the boards, the PCB confirmed the new schedule and venue for the tri-nation series.

In an official statement, the PCB said:

“After consultations with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), the schedule and venue have been revised in the interest of smooth operations and player safety.”

Originally, five matches including the final were set to take place in Lahore. However, all games will now be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for enhanced security and logistical convenience.

Revised Schedule (Tri-Nation Series) Match Date Venue
1st ODI Pakistan vs Zimbabwe 17 → 18 November Rawalpindi
2nd ODI Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 19 → 20 November Rawalpindi
Final 29 November Rawalpindi

The blast near an Islamabad courthouse created panic across the region, raising questions over player safety. Reports suggest several Sri Lankan players initially expressed hesitation about continuing the tour. However, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has made it clear that the tour will proceed as planned, warning that any player returning home without authorisation could face disciplinary action.

PCB has reassured all participating nations that comprehensive security arrangements will be in place throughout the tournament. The board emphasised that the changes were made to maintain the integrity of international cricket in Pakistan and ensure player welfare amid heightened security concerns.
