An earthquake caused disruptions at several power plants in Dhaka and various parts of the country, resulting in widespread electricity outages.
In a statement, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) said it is working to restore power supply as quickly as possible.
According to PDB officials, the Bibiyana-2 (Summit) 341 MW plant, and the Ashuganj 55 MW and 50 MW power plants completely shut down during the quake.
In addition, although a 600 MW unit of SS Power was operational, its supply was interrupted.
Several power plants have also reduced production partially. These include Bibiyana-3, Ashuganj 225 MW, and Sirajganj 225 MW plants.
PDB officials further reported that electricity supply from the Ghorashal AIS grid substation has also been disrupted. Due to fire, broken insulators and other issues, power connections in many regions remain cut off.
