Voting in Rajbari’s two parliamentary constituencies is proceeding in a calm and orderly manner as part of Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election. Polling commenced at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday and is scheduled to continue uninterrupted until 4:30 p.m., with election officials reporting a steady turnout across multiple centres in the early hours of voting.
A visit to several polling stations across the district revealed a reassuringly normal flow of voters. Citizens arrived in measured numbers, queuing patiently and complying with security protocols. The atmosphere, though subdued, carried a quiet sense of civic anticipation, reflecting a renewed public interest in participating in the democratic process. Election authorities remain on high alert to ensure that the polling environment remains free from intimidation, disruption, or irregularities.
Particular attention has been paid to centres in Jamalpur Union of Baliakandi Upazila, including Natapara High School, Abu Jafar Siddiqia Dakhil Madrasa, and Lakshandiya Government Primary School. These three polling stations, situated within half a kilometre of one another, have been placed under an extensive security cordon. From the early morning hours, voters were seen arriving in an orderly fashion, with law enforcement personnel stationed at entrances and surrounding perimeters to manage crowd movement and maintain public safety.
Several voters described the current polling environment as markedly improved compared with previous elections. They recalled allegations of irregularities and unusually high vote counts at certain centres in earlier polls, particularly at Natapara High School. This time, however, residents expressed confidence that they were able to cast their ballots freely and without undue influence. The visible presence of security forces, they said, had helped restore a measure of public trust in the integrity of the process.
The District Administrator and Returning Officer, Sultana Akhtar, stated that the administration had adopted a zero-tolerance approach to any attempt at disorder or malpractice. She confirmed that a multi-layered security framework had been deployed across the district to safeguard voters, polling officials, and electoral materials. Rapid-response teams and magistrates remain on standby to address any emerging concerns.
Rajbari-1 is witnessing a four-way contest across 156 polling centres, while Rajbari-2 features a broader field of nine candidates contesting votes in 198 centres. Together, these constituencies account for nearly one million registered voters, underlining the significance of Rajbari’s contribution to the national electoral outcome.
