In Dhunat upazila of Bogura, miscreants have once again set fire by pouring petrol on the veranda of the Gosai Bari branch of Grameen Bank. The incident occurred at around 3am on Monday (17 November).

According to reports, the branch office is located in the Fakirpara area along the Gosai Bari–Baniajan road in Dhunat. At approximately 3am, a group of miscreants first disconnected the bank’s electricity supply. They then poured petrol on the veranda and set it alight. A banner and a chair were burnt in the fire, but bank staff quickly extinguished the flames, preventing major damage. Following the incident, Sherpur Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Sajib Shahrin and Dhunat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidul Islam visited the scene in the morning.

Branch Manager Masud Rana said that, following instructions from the higher authorities, they had been on alert. They had stored sand and water to tackle fire and were awake at the time of the incident.

He added that as soon as the night guard entered the building from the veranda, the miscreants cut off the electricity supply. Moments later, they poured petrol, ignited the fire and fled. The bank staff managed to control the blaze quickly, avoiding significant losses.

Dhunat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidul Islam stated that police have inspected the scene and that the culprits will be identified and brought to justice.
