Separate operations conducted by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the border areas of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj have resulted in the seizure of 73 bottles of phensedyl and 588 pieces of yaba. A youth named Sihab Ali (22) was arrested during the operations conducted on Sunday (16 November) night.
The arrested Sihab is the son of Matiur Rahman from Jaminpur Khargogram in Shibganj.
According to BGB, at around 11:45pm on Sunday, a special patrol team from the Sonamasjid BOP conducted an operation based on secret information at the Mogarpara Central Eidgah area under Shahbajpur Union. During the raid, 73 bottles of phensedyl stored in three plastic baskets for smuggling were seized, although no one could be detained.
Confirming the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, Commander of the Chapainawabganj Mohananda Battalion (59 BGB), stated that the seized phensedyl is in the process of being submitted to the Shibganj Police Station.
Meanwhile, at around 7:30pm on Sunday, RAB arrested Sihab with 588 pieces of yaba while he was waiting to sell the drugs in the border area of Chowka Monaka Swarnokarpara under Monaksha Union.
In a press release sent on Monday morning by RAB-5, Chapainawabganj Camp, it was stated that Sihab is a professional drug trader. A case has been filed against him, and he has been handed over to the Shibganj Police Station.
BGB and RAB have stated that regular operations will continue to prevent drug smuggling in the border areas.
