Plan to fly 100,000 gas balloons near Jamuna foiled, 25 arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 25 individuals over allegations of planning to disrupt law and order by flying 100,000 gas balloons with Awami League slogans.

DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division confirmed the matter in a press release on Sunday. The news was also published in DMP News, the official spokesperson of the DMP.

According to the release, over the past 24 hours, Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police (DB) conducted separate operations in various areas of the capital, arresting leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its allied organizations. During initial interrogation, the arrested individuals admitted that they were involved in a conspiracy to create panic and disturb law and order through flash marches in Dhaka. They also planned to fly 100,000 gas balloons with Awami League slogans near the state guesthouse by the Jamuna river between 10-12 November.

DB arrested three people from Mirpur division, three from Ramna, two from Cyber Security Division, four from Motijheel, five from Wari, two from Uttara, two from Tejgaon, three from Lalbagh, and one from Gulshan.

Citing DB sources, DMP News stated that such operations will continue to maintain law and order and prevent sabotage. Legal action is underway against the arrested individuals.
