A court has set 27 November as the date for delivering the final verdict in a corruption case filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 12 others, accused of misusing power to obtain government land plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
The date was announced on Sunday (23 November) by Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-5.
It is noteworthy that allegations of irregularities and corruption were raised against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, members of her family, and 23 individuals in total, regarding the allocation of government plots in the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Purbachal New Town Project. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) began investigating these allegations in December last year.
According to the ACC, the former Prime Minister and her family members abused their power in the allocation of plots within the Purbachal project. The plots they acquired were not accessible to the general public, and the ACC claims they obtained them through corruption and by submitting false affidavits.
On 10 March this year, the ACC prepared charge sheets in six cases against 23 individuals. Subsequently, from 31 July, trial proceedings commenced in Dhaka’s Fourth and Fifth Special Judge Courts following the framing of charges against the accused.
