Police Attacked with Indigenous Weapons in Gazipur

In Tongi, Gazipur, police came under attack while attempting to arrest a suspect, leaving an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Tongi East Police Station seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Thursday (13 November) night on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Haji’s Mazar Bosti under Tongi West Police Station. The injured officer is ASI Fazlul Haque of Tongi East Police Station.

According to initial reports, a police team went to Tongi Bazar to arrest a suspect of a case. While trying to detain one individual, 100 to 150 unknown people from Haji’s Mazar Bosti attacked the police with sticks and indigenous sharp weapons. ASI Fazlul Haque sustained a serious head injury. The police fired six blank rounds to control the situation.

The injured officer was later taken to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital for treatment. Following the attack, police conducted a night-long operation to identify and arrest the attackers, successfully apprehending three individuals.

Confirming the incident, OC of Tongi East Police Station Wahiduzzaman said, “Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident. The operation to apprehend the rest continues.”
