A pall of gloom has descended upon the police force in Kishoreganj following the tragic death of a veteran officer. Constable Nazrul Islam (50), an officer serving at the Hossainpur Police Station, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning after a devastating road traffic collision occurred while he was transporting a suspect to the station.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, between 1:30 am and 2:00 am, in the Padorghati area of the Gobindapur Union. A police contingent had successfully apprehended a suspect, identified as Firoz Mia, and was returning to the station via a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.
As the vehicle traversed the Hossainpur-Nandail road, it was involved in a violent head-on collision with a 'Jalsiri Paribahan' bus travelling in the opposite direction. The impact of the crash left the auto-rickshaw severely mangled and caused critical injuries to several occupants.
Constable Nazrul Islam, the son of the late Jamal Badshah from Tangail’s Gopalpur Upazila, bore the brunt of the collision. Despite a valiant attempt by medical professionals to save him, he passed away at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital at approximately 11:00 am on Sunday.
The collision resulted in multiple other casualties, as detailed below:

| Fazlur Rahman | Assistant Sub-Inspector | Injured; Hospitalised |
| Mahfuzul Huq Mridha | Police Constable | Injured; Hospitalised |
| Firoz Mia | Arrested Suspect | Injured; Hospitalised |

Local residents and emergency services rushed to the scene, initially transporting the casualties to the Hossainpur Upazila Health Complex. Due to the severity of their conditions, the victims were subsequently moved to the Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital. When Constable Nazrul's condition deteriorated further, he was rushed to Mymensingh for intensive care, where he eventually lost his life.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hossainpur Police Station, Md. Rashedul Islam, confirmed the tragedy and stated that the bus involved in the collision fled the scene immediately after the impact. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of a dedicated colleague. While the bus has not yet been seized, we are in the process of initiating formal legal proceedings and are conducting a manhunt to locate the vehicle and its driver," he noted.
The body of the deceased officer will be handed over to his family following the completion of necessary legal and post-mortem formalities.
