A significant breakthrough was achieved by Narayanganj law enforcement in the early hours of Saturday, as a planned highway robbery was thwarted in the Fatullah district. During a targeted patrol, officers intercepted a gang of criminals, leading to the arrest of two key suspects and the recovery of substantial liquid assets and stolen jewellery.
On Friday night, at approximately 04:30 AM, a patrol team from Fatullah Model Police Station was canvassing the Muslimnagar Nayabazar area. The officers, led by ASI Mozammel Haque and SI Sanjib Joyaddar, spotted a suspicious gathering of individuals. Sensing the police presence, a group of seven to eight men attempted to flee the scene. While the majority managed to escape into the darkness, the police, aided by local residents, successfully apprehended two suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Oliullah Howlader (30) and Zakaria Howlader (28). Both hail from the Amtali Police Station area in Barguna district but were currently residing in rented accommodation within Fatullah.
Upon searching the suspects, police discovered a cache of domestic weapons intended for use in the robbery, alongside a significant amount of unexplained wealth. While the suspects remained tight-lipped regarding the origin of the recovered gold and cash, the sheer volume suggests they belong to previous victims of similar raids.

According to Tarek Al Mehedi, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) for Narayanganj District, the gang had a specific tactical plan. They intended to create a blockade on the road stretching from Panchabati to Kashipur. Their primary targets were vulnerable transport workers—specifically drivers of mishuks, battery-operated autos, and CNGs—as well as unsuspecting commuters travelling during the twilight hours.
The police confirmed that a formal case has been filed at the Fatullah Model Police Station. The two suspects have been produced before the court, while a manhunt is currently underway to track down the remaining six associates who evaded capture.
