Police Officer Robbed of Service Firearm in Narayanganj

A police officer of the Narayanganj District Police was reportedly overpowered and robbed by a gang of assailants, who also seized his service pistol. The alarming incident occurred early on Monday morning, raising concerns about public safety and the security of law enforcement personnel.

The victim has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lutfor Rahman, who was on duty at the time. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tasmin Akter, the incident took place at approximately 5:45 a.m. near the Nagar Bhaban area on Bangabandhu Road in Nitaiganj, Narayanganj.

Incident Details

ASP Tasmin Akter provided a detailed account of the incident. ASI Rahman had temporarily separated from his patrol team to use a nearby restroom. He was on his personal motorcycle when three unidentified assailants blocked his path. During the confrontation, the assailants forcibly took Rahman’s service pistol. It is notable that Rahman was fully in uniform during the robbery, underlining the boldness of the attackers.

“The officer was performing his duties when he became isolated from his team. The perpetrators seized his government-issued firearm before fleeing the scene,” ASP Tasmin said.

Police Response

The Narayanganj Police have mobilised multiple units to investigate the robbery, with a dual focus: to apprehend the perpetrators and to recover the stolen service weapon. Authorities are reviewing nearby CCTV footage and interviewing potential witnesses in an effort to track the criminals.
