Police Recover Handcuffs Using Key in Paba

Paba, Rajshahi – Police in Paba Upazila, Rajshahi, successfully recovered handcuffs from a detained suspect with the help of a key sent through local intermediaries, following a dramatic incident in which the suspect was briefly taken by a mob. The unusual recovery has sparked discussion in the area, though police have declined to confirm the exact method publicly.

The incident occurred during a robbery investigation involving a young man named Rasel. On Sunday, 22 March, a team of eight officers from Paba Police Station arrested Rasel at Pillapara Mor near Sahida Haque Filling Station. Witnesses report that Rasel’s mother, several relatives, and other locals gathered at the scene and forcibly removed him from police custody, creating a tense situation.

Local residents described how the assembled mob freed Rasel while he was still wearing handcuffs. Following the incident, the police sought to retrieve the handcuffs. With the assistance of local intermediaries, the handcuffs were recovered intact after approximately two hours. According to residents, a few individuals received the key and used it to remove the cuffs from Rasel before returning them to the police.

The arrest of Rasel was linked to a separate case stemming from a previous altercation. On 15 March, Afshar Ali filed a complaint against Rasel for allegedly assaulting him. Rasel had been taken into custody as part of that investigation prior to the mob incident.
