Political Discontent Comes to the Fore: Taznuba Jabin Resigns from NCP Following Tasnim Zara

The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has been plunged into a fresh political crisis as its Joint Convenor, Dr Taznuba Jabin, tendered her resignation with immediate effect. Dr Jabin announced her departure through a verified Facebook post on Sunday, exactly one day after Dr Tasnim Zara, the party’s Senior Joint General Secretary, resigned in protest against the party’s internal processes and policy direction.

Speculation had swirled around potential disagreements over alliances, particularly with Jamaat, or the party’s stance on women’s issues. However, Dr Jabin was unequivocal in clarifying her primary concern: a lack of transparency in the party’s coalition-building procedures. She wrote:

“Many believe my objection is over alliances with Jamaat or women’s policy, but the truth is a lack of transparency. The process has been deliberately structured in a way that undermines the party’s independence.”

Dr Jabin specifically criticised the party’s nomination process for the forthcoming 13th parliamentary elections. Of the 125 candidates nominated across various districts, only 30 were afforded the opportunity to contest through proper internal mechanisms, while the remainder were effectively denied the chance to run independently. She described this practice as detrimental to both the party’s principles and its public credibility.

On the subject of alliances, she added:

“Initially, the NCP aimed to reflect parliamentary and central political realities. Yet, the self-interest of senior leaders and factional politics have eroded the party’s foundational ethos.”

Dr Jabin confirmed that she would not participate in the upcoming elections and would return any campaign funds contributed by her supporters. She concluded her statement by affirming her commitment to personal and political integrity:

“I have resigned to preserve my self-respect and leave the space for those fighting for the NCP’s principles and independence.”

Recent Major Resignations in NCP

Leader Position Date of Resignation Reason / Comment
Dr Tasnim Zara Senior Joint General Secretary 27 December 2025 Discontent with political direction and internal processes
Dr Taznuba Jabin Joint Convenor 28 December 2025 Lack of transparency in alliance formation; protecting party principles and independence

In her post, Dr Jabin stressed that while long-term political objectives remain important, the party leadership has failed to uphold robust policymaking standards and accountability. She expressed hope that Bangladesh will witness a transparent and responsible political framework centred on national interests in the future.

With these high-profile departures, the NCP faces significant internal tension and the challenge of restructuring its leadership. Party insiders warn that continuing policy disputes and factional disagreements may trigger further resignations, signalling a pivotal moment in the party’s trajectory.
