Popular Singer Jens Sumon Passes Away

Renowned Bangladeshi singer Jens Sumon, widely celebrated for his iconic song “Ekta Chador Hobe Chador”, has passed away. He died on Friday (28 November) at around 3:30 pm at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka. The news of his death was confirmed by music director Isha Khan.

The song “Ekta Chador Hobe Chador” brought Jens Sumon instant recognition, making him a household name across Bangladesh. His career began in 1997 with the release of his debut solo album, Ashirbad. Over the years, he delivered a series of popular albums, including Akash Kendeche, Atithi, Ashabadi, Ekta Chador Hobe, Ay Tora Ay, and Cheri, among many others. Each release cemented his reputation as a beloved voice in the Bangladeshi music industry.

The track “Ekta Chador Hobe” became a nationwide sensation after being broadcast on a BTV magazine programme in 2002, propelling Jens Sumon into the spotlight almost overnight. Following this, he produced several more songs, though a prolonged hiatus followed, leaving fans eagerly awaiting his return.

In 2008, his final album Mon Cholo Ruper Nagore was released, further endearing him to audiences. Despite periods of irregular output, his place in the hearts of listeners remained secure. After a sixteen-year break from the music scene, Jens Sumon made a triumphant return in 2024 with the release of his song Asman Jamin on the G-Series YouTube channel, reintroducing his voice to a new generation of fans.

Jens Sumon’s passing marks a significant loss for Bangladesh’s music industry. His melodious voice, memorable songs, and contributions to the cultural fabric of the nation will be remembered fondly by fans and fellow artists alike.
