Pregnant Mother Brutally Murdered in Comilla

A tragic and violent incident in Comilla’s Burichang Upazila has left a pregnant mother of two dead, with three others seriously injured. The horrific attack, reportedly triggered by a trivial dispute over a discarded diaper, was carried out by her cousin and several accomplices.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 11 January, at approximately 2:00 pm in Jagtapur Nagarbari village, under Burichang Municipality. The deceased, Fahima Akter, 25, was the daughter of Jahangir Alam and the wife of Zahirul Islam of Chutna village in Debidwar Upazila. She was a mother of two and expecting her third child. Fahima had visited her parental home a week prior to the incident.

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that the altercation began in the courtyard over the disposal of a used diaper. Tensions escalated when Fahima entered the house to bathe, at which point her cousin, Said Siam, along with four to five associates, launched a brutal attack on her with sharp weapons. Fahima sustained severe injuries in the assault.

Hearing her screams, her uncle Abu Taher, cousin Iqbal Hossain, and brother-in-law Shahjalal rushed to intervene, only to be attacked and seriously wounded themselves. The local community quickly came to their aid, rushing the victims to Burichang Upazila Health Complex. Despite medical efforts, Fahima Akter was declared dead on arrival, while the three injured men were referred to Comilla Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Lutfor Rahman of Burichang Police Station stated that Fahima’s body had been recovered from the hospital, and police are actively managing the situation. He added that preparations are underway to file a formal case, and an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the culprits.

The shocking attack has sent waves of grief and outrage through the local community, highlighting concerns about domestic disputes escalating into extreme violence. Residents have called for swift and transparent legal action to ensure justice for the deceased and her family.
