The January transfer window has officially opened, and, as always, Premier League clubs are actively seeking to bolster their squads with new talent. Clubs vying for the title, such as Arsenal and Manchester City, are looking to strengthen their chances, while teams facing relegation threats, including Wolves and West Ham, hope that shrewd signings can help secure their top-flight status.
It is widely anticipated that enormous sums will be spent this month. While certain clubs have a reputation for splashing the cash, it is also worth examining which managers have overseen the highest net spending on players in the league so far this season. This includes recently departed managers such as Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca and Manchester United’s Rúben Amorim, whose tenures nonetheless involved significant investment.
At the top of the list is Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. Since taking charge in 2016, the Spanish tactician has overseen net spending of €1.03 billion, roughly equivalent to 14,098 crore Bangladeshi taka. Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta follows in second place. Taking over in late 2019, Arteta has spent €899 million, or approximately 13,000 crore BDT, slightly less than Guardiola despite three fewer years at the helm.
Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe ranks third, with a net spend of €463 million (around 6,650 crore BDT) since his appointment in 2021. Critics argue that despite such substantial investment, the club could have performed better in the race for the top four. Liverpool’s manager Jürgen Klopp successor, Arne Slot, sits fourth. In only his second season, Slot has overseen €258 million in net spending, marginally higher than recently dismissed Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim, whose net spend stands at €208 million.
There are also some surprising entries in the list. Tottenham Hotspur’s Thomas Frank ranks sixth, with €168 million in net spending. Everton’s manager David Moyes, appointed in January 2025, has overseen €117 million, placing him tenth. Both Frank and Moyes surpass Chelsea’s former manager Enzo Maresca, whose tenure saw a net spend of €116 million, reflecting significant player sales during his time. Aston Villa’s Unai Emery is in 13th place, with a modest €47 million spent since late 2022.
| Rank | Manager | Club | Year Appointed | Net Spend (€ million) | Net Spend (BDT crore) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| 2 | Mikel Arteta | Arsenal | 2019 | 899 | 13,000 |
| 3 | Eddie Howe | Newcastle United | 2021 | 463 | 6,650 |
| 4 | Arne Slot | Liverpool | 2024 | 258 | 3,710 |
| 5 | Rúben Amorim | Manchester United | 2025 | 208 | 2,990 |
| 6 | Thomas Frank | Tottenham Hotspur | 2023 | 168 | 2,400 |
| 7 | David Moyes | Everton | 2025 | 117 | 1,680 |
| 8 | Enzo Maresca | Chelsea | 2024 | 116 | 1,670 |
| 9 | Unai Emery | Aston Villa | 2022 | 47 | 670 |
