On the occasion of Eid, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman extended warm greetings to citizens from all walks of life, including diplomats, educators, and members of the public. Accompanying him was his spouse, Dr Zubaida Rahman.
The Eid greeting ceremony commenced at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the state guesthouse, Jamuna, drawing a significant crowd eager to convey their felicitations in person. Residents and visitors began arriving in large numbers from early morning, with many lining up well before the event officially opened.
Entry to the Jamuna premises was opened to the public from 8:30 a.m., at which point throngs of people, including party supporters and citizens from diverse professions and communities, quickly gathered. The crowd eventually extended along the road up to the Hotel Intercontinental, reflecting the high level of public interest. Law enforcement personnel were present throughout the area to ensure safety and maintain order, demonstrating meticulous planning and coordination.
Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, alongside President Md. Sahabuddin, participated in the main Eid al-Fitr congregational prayer at the National Eidgah grounds. The prayer commenced at 8:30 a.m., marking a traditional start to the day’s celebrations.
This Eid holds particular significance for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, as it is his first celebration in Bangladesh following a prolonged 19-year exile. He last celebrated Eid in the country in 2007 and was compelled to leave for London in September 2008 during his tenure as the senior joint secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Returning to Bangladesh on 25 December 2025, this year’s Eid marks a symbolic homecoming and an opportunity to reconnect with citizens.
