Prisoner Dies at Chittagong Central Jail

A prisoner named Maulana Monsur Alam has died at Chittagong Central Jail. He passed away in the early hours of Saturday (22 November) at around 1:45 am.

Monsur Alam was the son of Abdul Majid from Gazunia area of Cox’s Bazar Sadar. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case and had been held in jail for seven years.

According to prison sources, Monsur Alam fell ill at the jail on Saturday night and was immediately taken to the prison hospital. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Upon arrival at CMCH around 1:45 am, doctors declared him dead.

Deputy Superintendent of Chittagong Central Jail, Md. Rakib Sheikh, said that Monsur Alam had been a life-term convict in a rape case and had been imprisoned for seven years. After legal procedures are completed, the body will be handed over to his family. The body is currently at the CMCH morgue for post-mortem examination.
