Priyanka’s First Original Song Composed by Tapan

Renowned Bangladeshi vocalist Tapan Chowdhury is making a remarkable return to the music scene, not merely as a singer but now as a composer. Celebrated as the lead vocalist of the iconic band Souls, Tapan has also earned a special place in listeners’ hearts through numerous solo albums and playback performances. Currently residing in Canada, he continues to actively pursue musical ventures and collaborations.

Recently, Tapan composed an original song for acclaimed singer Priyanka Gop, marking her first foray into performing a completely original piece. The song, titled “Koto Din Hoini Dekha” (“It Has Been So Long”), was co-written by Tapan and lyricist Kabir Bakul, with musical arrangement by Ujjal Sinha. A lyrical excerpt reads:

“Koto din hoyni dekha, koto din dekhi na tomay, shudhu ektu chokher dekha dekhbo bole, ontor jay venge, jay pure jay.”

Priyanka, an alumna of Rabindra Bharati University, has undergone rigorous training under maestros including Pandit Arun Bhaduri, Anand Chakraborty, Asit Roy, Wahidul Haq, Subir Nandi, and Shubhra Guha. She is an accredited artist of Bangladesh Betar in Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, and classical music, and currently serves as the Chairperson of the Music Department at Dhaka University. In 2015, she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her contribution to the film “Anil Bagchi’r Ekdin”.

Commenting on the collaboration, Priyanka said, “I grew up listening to Tapan Dada’s music. That such a respected artist has composed a song for me is truly an immense honour. I will pour my heart into performing it.”

Lyricist Kabir Bakul added, “We originally wrote this song many years ago. Tapan Dada has now reworked it, tailoring it specifically for Priyanka. While another singer performed it initially at an event, this is Priyanka’s first official rendition.”
