A projectile launched from Yemen was intercepted en route to Israel, according to a statement by the Israeli military on Tuesday. Although the missile was neutralised mid-air, its launch triggered air-raid sirens across multiple regions of the country, causing alarm among the civilian population.
In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated:
“Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in several areas in Israel, a missile that was launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF.”

Houthi Involvement and Regional Dynamics
The Houthi movement, which maintains control over Yemen’s capital Sana’a and vast areas of the country, is widely recognised as part of an Iran-backed alliance opposing Israel. Other prominent members of this coalition include Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.
Since the onset of the Gaza conflict on 7 October 2023, the Houthis have regularly targeted Israel with missile strikes. The majority of these attacks have been successfully intercepted by Israeli defence systems.
In addition to missile launches, the Houthis have also conducted naval assaults on commercial vessels they allege to be linked to Israel, justifying their actions as acts of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Escalation and Israeli Response
In retaliation to repeated provocations, Israeli forces have conducted numerous airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled infrastructure in Yemen. These retaliatory strikes have primarily focused on:
| Targeted Infrastructure | Location |
| Ports | Western Yemen |
| Airport Facilities | Sana’a Airport |
These exchanges underscore the broader regionalisation of the Gaza conflict, with the Iran-aligned “Axis of Resistance” actively engaging across multiple theatres — from Lebanon to Yemen — in what is increasingly being perceived as a widening confrontation with Israel.
