Hundreds of BNP activists in Nangalkot, Cumilla, have staged a demonstration wearing burial shrouds, demanding a change in the party’s nomination for the Cumilla-10 (Nangalkot–Lalmai) constituency.
On Thursday evening (27 November), supporters of BNP National Executive Committee member Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan, who was denied nomination, held the protest in Nangalkot Upazila town.
According to party sources, the BNP’s preliminary nomination list included the name of former MP Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan for the Cumilla-10 (Nangalkot–Lalmai) seat. Following the announcement, supporters of Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan have been staging continuous demonstrations across the two upazilas. As part of this programme, on Thursday evening they joined a protest wearing burial shrouds. The procession marched through the main roads of the upazila town and ended with a brief rally at Bottola.
Speakers at the rally demanded that Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan be announced in the final nomination. They also declared that their movement would continue until their demand is met.
Former general secretary of Nangalkot Municipality BNP Jahangir Alam Majumdar, former central Swechchhasebak Dal member Mizanur Rahman Majumdar, and Cumilla South District Swechchhasebak Dal member Abdur Rahim Sujan addressed the gathering along with others.
