PSL 2026 Consolidates Venues, Matches Held Behind Closed Doors

The ongoing energy crisis triggered by escalating conflicts in the Middle East has prompted organisers of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to make significant adjustments for its 11th edition. Originally planned across six venues, the tournament will now be confined to just two cities, Lahore and Karachi, with all matches played in empty stadiums to ensure safety and operational feasibility.

The league, known for drawing tens of thousands of spectators per game, will see 22 matches in each city. Despite these changes, the original match dates remain unchanged; only the venues have been altered. The season will commence on 26 March with the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, hosting newcomers Hyderabad Kingsmen at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi addressed the venue revisions at a press conference, emphasising the difficulty of the decision. “We cannot limit people’s movement directly, yet with nearly 30,000 spectators attending daily, hosting matches as usual is not feasible. Therefore, until the situation stabilises, we have decided that no fans will be allowed in the stadiums. This was a tough, but necessary decision. Even the PSL opening ceremony has been cancelled,” he explained.

The revised schedule will see the first 14 matches take place in Lahore up to 6 April, followed by 15 matches in Karachi. The league will return to Lahore on 21 April, featuring two matches in a single day: a daytime game in Lahore and a night fixture in Karachi. Similar double-venue arrangements are planned for 22, 23, 25, and 26 April.

Matches initially slated for Rawalpindi have also been relocated. A key qualifier originally planned there will now be held in Karachi on 28 April, while two eliminators on 21 April and 1 May remain scheduled in Lahore. The tournament will culminate with the final on 3 May, also in Lahore.

PSL 2026 Revised Venue Schedule

Date(s) Match Venue Notes
26 Mar Lahore Lahore Qalandars vs Hyderabad Kingsmen
26 Mar – 6 Apr Lahore First 14 matches
7 Apr – 20 Apr Karachi 15 matches
21 Apr Lahore/Karachi Two matches: day in Lahore, night in Karachi
22, 23, 25, 26 Apr Lahore/Karachi Double-venue matches
28 Apr Karachi Qualifier relocated from Rawalpindi
1 May Lahore Eliminator match
3 May Lahore Final

This reshuffling underscores the PCB’s prioritisation of player safety and operational efficiency amid external geopolitical pressures, while still preserving the integrity and competitive spirit of Pakistan’s premier T20 cricket league.
