Bangladesh’s six cricketers, including star pacer Mustafizur Rahman, are set to feature in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), but recent developments have forced significant adjustments to the tournament’s venues and logistics. Heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East—particularly involving the US and Israel, Iran, and the Pakistan–Afghanistan border region—have had a ripple effect across sporting events, including the PSL, prompting organisers to rethink their original plans.
The eleventh edition of the PSL is scheduled to take place from 26 March to 3 May 2026, with eight teams originally set to compete across six venues in Pakistan. A total of 44 matches were planned over 39 days, giving fans across the country opportunities to attend games. However, due to ongoing conflicts, rising fuel and energy costs, and concerns about logistics and safety, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to condense the tournament. Matches will now be held only in Lahore and Karachi, and games will be played behind closed doors, with no spectators permitted.
The original plan included venues in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi, aiming to expand regional access and engagement. Yet, the current security and economic situation—rising essential goods prices and restricted transport and energy resources—necessitated a scaled-back approach. Even the glamorous opening ceremony, initially scheduled for 26 March, has been cancelled.
PCB President Mohsin Naqvi explained the decision: “Daily, up to 30,000 spectators could attend matches. Controlling the movement of such large crowds during the ongoing crisis is not feasible. Therefore, we have decided to hold matches without spectators until the situation improves. It is a difficult but necessary step.”
The match schedule remains unchanged, only the venues have been relocated. The tournament will start with 14 matches in Lahore from 26 March to 6 April, before moving to Karachi for 15 matches. From 21 April, the PSL will return to Lahore, with the qualifier round shifted from Rawalpindi to Karachi and Lahore on 28 April. The final is scheduled for 3 May at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
The opening match will see Lahore Qalandars, featuring Mustafizur Rahman and Parvez Imon, face Hyderabad Kingsmen, setting the tone for an intense season despite the logistical challenges.
| Phase/Match Dates | Venue(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 26 March – 6 April | Lahore | First 14 matches; no spectators |
| 7 – 20 April | Karachi | 15 matches; behind closed doors |
| 21 – 27 April | Lahore | Return of league matches |
| 28 April – Qualifiers | Lahore & Karachi | Rawalpindi dropped from schedule |
| 3 May – Final | Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore | Season finale |
The move underscores how regional instability can impact global sporting events. Despite the challenges, the PSL is proceeding on schedule, allowing players, including Bangladesh internationals, to compete while prioritising safety, logistical efficiency, and risk mitigation.
