A BNP leader, Selim Reza Yusuf, has been expelled from the party following allegations of extortion, land-grabbing, shop looting, and intimidation in Narail.

The decision was announced on Sunday, 14 September, through a press release signed by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and was published on BNP’s verified social media page.

According to the press release, Selim Reza Yusuf, who served as General Secretary of Kalia Municipal BNP in Narail, has been removed from all positions within the party, including his primary membership, due to violations of party discipline and anti-organisational activities.

Several BNP leaders from Narail, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the authenticity of the notice via mobile phone.

The letter stated: “There are clear allegations against you regarding extortion, land-grabbing, looting of shops, and intimidation, among other unlawful activities. In accordance with the party constitution, you are hereby expelled from all positions at every level, effective immediately.”

A copy of the expulsion notice signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has been sent to Selim Reza Yusuf.

Speaking to the media, Selim Reza Yusuf said: “I saw the letter on Facebook. All the allegations made against me are completely baseless. The truth will come out very soon.”

On 5 August, Rahima Khanum, wife of Akij Sheikh from Chhota Kalia area in Kalia Upazila, filed a case at the Kalia Police Station. She accused Selim Reza Yusuf, along with seven others including leaders of BNP’s affiliated organisations, of extortion.
