Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee, has stated that the party will finalise its nominations for upcoming elections in the near future.
He made the remarks on Thursday (25 September) while laying a floral wreath at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, along with members of D-Fab, on the occasion of World Pharmacist Day.
Dr. Zahid said: “The party has been preparing for the elections for the past 18 months. So far, no green or red signals have been given regarding any candidate’s nomination. However, nominations will be finalised very soon.”
On the recent attacks on political leaders in New York, he described the incident as an expression of the vengeful politics of the Awami League. He warned: “If they come into the field, the people themselves will resist the attackers.”
The BNP Standing Committee member further remarked that the party is prepared to counter domestic and foreign conspiracies surrounding the elections. He added that the BNP will implement its 31-point plan with the support of the people.
Regarding BNP senior leader Tarique Rahman, Dr. Zahid noted that since travelling to London in 2008 for medical treatment, Tarique Rahman has remained there. During the Awami League’s 15-and-a-half-year rule, he could not return to Bangladesh due to multiple lawsuits and judicial proceedings. Although the path would be open for him to return following Sheikh Hasina’s potential fall from power, he has not yet returned and continues to manage party affairs from London.
