How Many Candidates Are Contesting for the CUCSU VP Post?

A total of 25 students have submitted nominations for the post of Vice President (VP) of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU). For the position of General Secretary (GS), 22 nominations have been filed, and the same number, 22, have applied for the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) post.

This information was confirmed on Friday (19 September) by Professor Ariful Haque Siddiqui, Secretary of the CUCSU Election Commission.

Nomination Filing Details

  • Thursday was the deadline for submitting nomination papers for both CUCSU and Hall Union elections.
  • A total of 529 nomination forms were collected for various CUCSU posts, but 429 were submitted by the final day.

Election Timeline

  • Sunday, 23 September: Last day to withdraw nominations.
  • 24 September: Objections regarding candidacy will be received and resolved.
  • Monday, 25 September: Final list of candidates to be published.
  • 12 October: Voting day.

Contesting Panels

  • This year’s CUCSU election is being held after nearly 35 years.
  • The Student Party and Islami Chhatra Shibir are contesting together under the banner “Sompriti Shikkharthi Jote”.
  • Bangladesh Chhatra Union (Droh Porishod) and Socialist Chhatra Front will contest as separate panels.
  • The Islami Chhatra Andolan will run under “Sochoton Shikkharthi Shongshod”.
  • In total, nine panels, including Independent Students’ Alliance, will compete, representing a range of social and political organisations.

The large number of nominations and the presence of multiple panels indicate a highly competitive election, reflecting the active participation of students in university politics.
