Barrister Rumin Farhana, BNP’s Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and former Member of Parliament, has asserted that those who exploit religion to divide people are enemies of Bangladesh’s age-old harmony. Issuing a strong warning, she declared that “there will be no place for exploiters of religion in Bangladesh.”

She made the remarks on Sunday, 17 August, while addressing the Mothers’ Conference as the chief guest at the historic JM Sen Hall in Chattogram, organised by the Central Committee of the Janmashtami Celebration Council of Bangladesh.

Rumin Farhana stated that Bangladesh is a country built by Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims together, where communalism has no room. Ordinary citizens, she emphasised, do not desire religious division. However, a certain quarter has consistently weaponised religion to create divisions and cling to power — a group that the people of Bangladesh have repeatedly rejected.

She further noted:

  • Teachings of Sri Krishna: Rumin Farhana highlighted that Sri Krishna preached love for humanity, truth, and justice. Each phase of his life stands as a testament to resisting injustice. She recalled the episode where Sri Krishna stood by Draupadi, protecting her dignity — a lesson that remains profoundly relevant today.
  • Respect for Women: She stressed that one of the core teachings of Sri Krishna is to uphold the honour of women, underscoring its importance in contemporary society.
