Despite heated discussions in national politics over the past few months concerning him and his party, G M Quader, Chairman of a faction of the Jatiya Party, had remained largely silent. He has now finally broken his silence, addressing several key issues regarding the upcoming elections.
“Have the citizenship rights of Awami League voters been revoked? Will their names be removed from the voter list? Will they be prevented from voting? Has any such announcement been made? If not, then why worry if they vote for my party?”
“If the BNP offers them better facilities and promises not to harass them after winning, they may vote for BNP as well. However, they will not vote for Jamaat.”
“When Jamaat was banned, we opposed it, but it did not benefit the country. Elections conducted without including all stakeholders cannot be considered good elections. Yet if I say this now, I am labelled a traitor.”
Issue | Statement / Viewpoint |
Awami League voters | Citizenship and voting rights are intact; they may vote for Jatiya Party without concern |
BNP support | Conditional support if BNP offers fair treatment and post-election security; will not vote for Jamaat |
Election credibility | Inclusive participation of all parties, including Awami League, necessary for credible elections |
Jamaat | Opposition to Jamaat’s influence in elections; banning previously did not benefit the country |
Next election | Must be conducted under a newly formed government, not an interim administration |
Party strength | Jatiya Party has become stronger after recent internal splits |
G M Quader’s statements underline the importance of inclusivity and fairness in the upcoming election and reflect his party’s strategic positioning amidst Bangladesh’s complex political landscape.
