The United States has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for repeatedly failing to comply with its directives, resulting in the suspension of its membership. The decision was communicated to the country following a virtual ICC meeting on Tuesday, according to an official press release.

Despite the suspension, the USA Cricket Board (USACB) will face no restrictions on participation in ICC events.

Over the past year, the ICC has conducted an in-depth review of the United States Cricket Board, consulting extensively with key stakeholders. During this period, the USACB failed to establish a proper administrative structure.

Additionally, during the ICC Annual General Meeting in July, the United States was given three months to organise free and fair elections. The board’s failure to comply with this directive led to the decision to suspend its membership.

The ICC stated in its press release that, while regrettable, the action was necessary to safeguard the long-term interests of cricket. The organisation emphasised that players and the sport itself should not be negatively impacted by the suspension. However, details regarding administrative oversight during the suspension remain unclear.

A Normalization Committee, established with the help of ICC management, will determine the steps required to lift the suspension and restore membership. The committee will also monitor USACB’s progress, offering advice and support where necessary.

Meanwhile, the United States faces no restrictions on participating in upcoming ICC events, including:

EventDatesNotes

2028 Los Angeles Olympics2028USA eligible to participate as hosts

This measure underscores the ICC’s commitment to governance and accountability in cricket administration, while ensuring that players’ opportunities and participation in global competitions remain unaffected.
