The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has successfully arrested two primary suspects in connection with the brutal murder of Sahabuddin, a prominent local businessman in the capital’s Kadamtali area. The victim, who operated a scrap metal and gas cylinder enterprise, was fatally attacked on the night of Tuesday, 6 January 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 pm on Adarsha Road in the Kudar Bazar area. According to investigative reports, Sahabuddin was intercepted by a group of assailants, led by a man identified as Mohammad Shahidul. The attackers, reportedly acting on a long-standing personal feud, hacked Sahabuddin repeatedly with sharp weapons.
To facilitate their escape and deter pursuers, the group detonated several crude bombs (cocktails), creating panic in the residential neighbourhood. Although the victim was rushed to the Emergency and Casualty Complex at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical state, he was pronounced dead by attending physicians at approximately 11:30 pm.
Following the filing of a formal murder case by the victim’s wife at Kadamtali Police Station, RAB-10 initiated a “shadow investigation” into the crime. Using a combination of local intelligence and digital forensics, the elite force tracked the suspects to their hideouts within the Kadamtali jurisdiction.
The two individuals arrested have been identified as:
Mohammad Shahidul: The primary accused named in the First Information Report (FIR).
Nargis Begum: An accomplice allegedly involved in the planning or execution of the attack.

Sahabuddin had been a well-known figure in the Muradpur and Kadamtali-Jurain areas. His elder brother, Mohiuddin, noted that while Sahabuddin had originally focused on the scrap trade, he had recently expanded his business to include domestic gas cylinders, which he operated from the ground floor of their family home.
Local residents have expressed deep concern over the brazen nature of the attack, particularly the use of explosives in a crowded market area. While the primary suspects are now in custody, RAB officials have confirmed that the investigation remains active as they seek to identify any further collaborators who may have participated in the fatal ambush.
