RAB DG and SB Chief Appointed to Post on Contract Basis

AKM Shahidur Rahman, Director General (DG) of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Md. Golam Rasul, head of the Police Special Branch (SB), have been appointed to the position of Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP) on a contract basis.

The appointments were formalised on Sunday, 31 August, through two separate notifications issued by the Ministry of Public Administration under the directive of the President.

According to the first notification, under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018, Md. Golam Rasul’s post-retirement leave and related benefits have been suspended. He is required to relinquish any other profession, business, or employment with government, semi-government, private institutions, or organisations.

He will serve as Additional Inspector General of Police on a contract basis from 1 September 2025 until 15 March 2026.

The second notification provides similar provisions for AKM Shahidur Rahman. Under the same legal framework, his accrued post-retirement leave and related benefits have been suspended, and he must also relinquish other professional or business engagements. His contract appointment continues from his previous term and will last from 1 September 2025 to 15 March 2026.

Other conditions of the appointments will be governed by the approved contractual agreement. The notifications state that the appointments are issued in the public interest.
