Raid in Dinajpur Park Late at Night, 52 Fined

In a late-night enforcement drive, a mobile court in Biral, Dinajpur, imposed fines on 52 individuals for congregating in LGED Park during the early hours of Thursday, 22 January. The operation, conducted by the mobile court under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Ishtiak Ahmed, aimed to curb unauthorised gatherings in public spaces.

According to Executive Magistrate Ishtiak Ahmed, the intervention was prompted by reports that over fifty people had assembled in the park well past midnight. “Public spaces such as parks are meant for recreation during daylight hours. Gathering late at night not only violates local regulations but also raises safety concerns,” he stated.

During the operation, all 52 individuals were apprehended on the spot. Each was fined BDT 3,000 under Section 291 of the Bangladesh Penal Code, 1860. The fines were collected immediately, and the individuals were released the same night. The total sum collected amounted to BDT 156,000.

The authorities emphasised that the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to enforce public order and ensure that local laws are observed. “Mobile courts serve as an effective deterrent against violations, ensuring that individuals understand the legal boundaries of public conduct,” noted Magistrate Ahmed.

For clarity, the enforcement details are summarised in the following table:

Date & Time Location Number of People Fined Fine per Person (BDT) Total Fine Collected (BDT) Legal Reference
22 January, 2026, Late Night LGED Park, Biral 52 3,000 156,000 Section 291, Bangladesh Penal Code, 1860

Local residents expressed mixed reactions to the drive. While some appreciated the enforcement as necessary for public order, others argued that late-night gatherings in parks were often harmless social activities. However, authorities reaffirmed that adherence to legal norms was paramount and that similar actions could be taken in other public spaces if violations persisted.

This operation highlights a continuing trend in Dinajpur of active mobile court interventions aimed at maintaining law and order, particularly in public areas after dark. Citizens are advised to comply with park regulations and avoid assembling during prohibited hours to prevent fines and legal consequences.
