The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) will identify all risky buildings in Dhaka and take necessary action. RAJUK Chairman Md Riazul Islam shared this information on Saturday after inspecting a damaged building in Kosaituli, Bangshal.
During the inspection, he said that the owner of the building whose railing had collapsed failed to present the approved design. He instructed that if the design is not submitted within the next seven days, the building will be sealed.
Riazul Islam further stated that RAJUK does not approve plans for plots smaller than one katha. He said, ‘Those who are constructing buildings illegally are having their utility meter connections disconnected. Even then, some continue construction using stolen meters or generators.’
Highlighting the risks in Old Dhaka, he said that most buildings there are unsafe. Without approved plans, six- to seven-storey buildings have been constructed on plots smaller than one katha.
The RAJUK Chairman advised residents to demolish old or unsafe high-rise buildings built on small plots and construct new ones.
He added that although combining multiple plots to construct a single house may cause temporary loss, the new building will compensate for that loss and offer further benefits. With the approved height and facilities, residents will not be financially harmed.
