Barcelona strengthened their lead over Real Madrid in the La Liga table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Osasuna at Camp Nou on Saturday night. After a first half that saw several missed opportunities, the Catalan side eventually seized control in the second half, with Brazilian star Raphinha scoring both goals to seal the win.
The first half was characterised by a relentless attacking effort from Barcelona, but the breakthrough eluded them. At the 23-minute mark, Ferran Torres thought he had opened the scoring, only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR review. Later, in the 40th minute, Torres again failed to convert a cross from Lamin Yamal. Eric García also attempted a long-range effort, but his shot went wide. In stoppage time, Yamal came close, but still, the net remained untouched.
The second half began with Osasuna threatening from a free-kick taken by Marcus Rashford, which was expertly saved by Barcelona’s goalkeeper Sergio Herrera. Despite this early scare, it was only a matter of time before Barcelona found the net.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute. Pedri surged forward from midfield before delivering a perfectly timed pass to Raphinha, who calmly slotted the ball into the net with a low finish. Osasuna pushed forward in response, but this only created more space for Barcelona to exploit.
Raphinha added his second goal in the 86th minute. A cross from Jules Koundé deflected off an Osasuna defender and fell perfectly for the Brazilian winger, who made no mistake in converting the chance.
This double strike secured Barcelona’s victory, marking their seventh consecutive unbeaten match in La Liga. The win lifts Barcelona to the top of the table with 43 points from 17 matches, while Real Madrid remain in second place with 36 points from 16 games. Osasuna, meanwhile, languish 16th with just 15 points from 16 matches.
With Raphinha in sensational form, Hansi Flick’s side now look stronger than ever, maintaining their supremacy in the Spanish top flight.
