Astronomers have announced that a rare total solar eclipse will occur on 2 August 2027. Some regions in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East are expected to experience up to six minutes of darkness, marking the longest solar eclipse of the century.
The eclipse will begin over the eastern Atlantic, crossing Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. Cities such as Luxor and Aswan are expected to experience the longest duration of totality. Partial eclipses will be visible across Europe, West Asia, and parts of East Africa, but the United States, Australia, and most of Asia will not see the eclipse.
During totality, the Sun will be briefly obscured, the sky will darken, and temperatures may drop slightly. The Sun’s corona will glow softly around the dark disc. Animals may alter their behaviour, with birds becoming quiet, and daylight will temporarily diminish.
