RDA Aims to Improve Rajshahi City’s Infrastructure and Living Conditions

The Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA) is currently implementing a wide range of development initiatives focused on enhancing infrastructure and improving living standards across Rajshahi city.

These efforts encompass road construction and expansion, the development of residential zones, and the beautification of public spaces. These projects are being executed in collaboration with key organisations including the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), and the Roads and Highways Department (RHD).

Beautification and Tourism Promotion Projects

Two notable public attraction projects are:

  • Captain Monsur Ali Park – Now modernised and aesthetically upgraded.

These improvements aim to elevate public enjoyment and attract more visitors to the city.

Rajshahi Master Plan: A Vision from 2022 to 2041

To guide the city’s future, RDA has finalised a 20-year master plan (2022–2041). The plan spans 365.55 square kilometres, incorporating two neighbouring municipalities and 12 union parishads.

Plan Component Details
Current Plan Coverage 365.55 sq km
Previous Plan Initiated 1984, covering 127 sq km
Latest Tools Used GPS, GIS, Total Station, RTK, digital mapping, and data preservation
Socio-Economic Surveys Conducted for urban planning accuracy

“We’re optimistic about achieving greater outcomes with the current master plan,” noted SM Tuhinur Alam, RDA Chairman.

Future Development Focus

Under the new master plan, the RDA’s vision is to turn Rajshahi into a green, healthy, educational, and industrial hub. The strategy includes:

  • Establishment of new residential and commercial areas
  • Development of wide roads, footpaths, playgrounds, Eidgahs, and lakes
  • Underground utility infrastructure for electricity, water, gas, and data lines

The 2004 master plan had fallen short of meeting the city’s growing needs. Therefore, a consulting team of national and international experts was assembled for the updated digital survey and plan.

To ensure successful implementation, regular coordination meetings are being held with all stakeholders, public representatives, and relevant institutions.
