In the season’s first El Clásico, Real Madrid defeated archrivals Barcelona 2–1. Like other fans, lifelong Madrid supporter Igal Brodkin was supposed to leave the stadium in joy after his team’s victory. But fate had other plans. He fell seriously ill during the match and later passed away. Several international media outlets, including All Football and Daily Sports, confirmed the news of Brodkin’s death.
In the 52nd minute of the Real-Barça match, Kylian Mbappé failed to score from a penalty. At that very moment, the Israeli Real Madrid supporter suffered a heart attack. Although he was quickly taken to La Paz Hospital for advanced treatment, doctors could not save his life.
Brodkin’s son confirmed his father’s death, saying, “My father was a devoted Real Madrid fan. He spread his love for the club throughout our entire family. We always watched the matches together.”
To honor Brodkin’s memory, Real Madrid supporters are planning to observe a minute of silence on November 5 during their Champions League match against Liverpool.
