Hannan Masud, Senior Joint Chief Coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has announced his boycott of the July Declaration event, citing that not all 158 coordinators of the July Movement were invited to the ceremony.

He made this announcement in a post on his Facebook account in the early hours of Monday (4 August) at around 2:00 am.

Points from Hannan Masud’s Statement

  • He wrote that although he received an invitation card for the July Declaration ceremony,
  • the government failed to invite the legitimate body of 158 coordinators and co-coordinators of the July Uprising.
  • He expressed scepticism that while there may be seats allocated for some, there would be no place for all 158 coordinators.

Further, he questioned whether there would even be seats reserved for the families of the martyrs whose courage and leadership made the uprising possible. He added that for the government, these figures have become worthless in less than a year.

Masud emphasised:

“My comrades, who fearlessly led the movement to bring down Hasina, and all the martyr families, if they do not receive the honour they deserve, I, Abdul Hannan Masud, personally declare that I will boycott tomorrow’s July Declaration programme.”

Event

The July Declaration will be read by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, on Tuesday, 5 August at 5:00 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.

The event will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV).
