Remote-Controlled Firefighting Robot Deployed to Combat Blaze at Dhaka Airport

A remote-controlled firefighting robot has been deployed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to help bring a fire under control. The incident occurred at the Import Cargo Village near Gate No. 8 on Saturday afternoon (18 October).

According to airport authorities, the robot was transported to the site on a large lorry around 5:00 pm to assist in the operation due to the challenging conditions inside the affected area.

A fire service official present at the scene stated that the Cargo Village contains a large quantity of flammable materials and chemicals, making it extremely risky for firefighters to enter directly. Owing to these hazards, the remote-controlled robot was brought in to suppress the fire from a safe distance.

Fire service representatives confirmed that the robot is actively operating inside the site, controlled remotely, and is contributing significantly to the fire containment efforts.

Airport officials reported that flames were seen spreading through the following locations:

Affected Areas Description
Canopy-1 to Canopy-6 Passenger and operational zones adjacent to the cargo area
Aircraft Storage Room Containing maintenance and logistic materials
BGMEA Courier Section Section handling export-import courier parcels

Firefighting Response

Agency / Unit Deployment Details

Dhaka WASA Provided water supply assistance on site

The fire broke out at around 2:30 pm in the Import Cargo Village House, near Gate 8 of the airport. Firefighters have been working tirelessly to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.

The deployment of a remote-controlled firefighting robot marks a significant step in modernising Bangladesh’s emergency response capabilities. Officials said the machine is capable of entering confined or highly hazardous environments where human access is difficult or dangerous.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing.
