New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson has announced his squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship, with only one uncapped player making the main line-up. The All Blacks are set to begin their campaign with back-to-back Tests in Argentina later this month.

Squad Developments

  • Simon Parker, a flanker from the Waikato Chiefs, is the only uncapped player named in the core squad. He is set to make his debut in the opening fixture against Argentina in Córdoba on 16 August.

“Simon Parker had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality that we are looking forward to working with,” said Robertson.
“He can cover both blindside and No.8 and has experience with several New Zealand representative teams — we believe he’s ready for the next step.”

  • Three additional uncapped players — Tevita Mafileo (prop), Kyle Preston (scrum-half) and Leroy Carter (utility back) — have been included as injury cover.
  • Several key players, including Tyrel Lomax, Luke Jacobson, Cam Roigard, Noah Hotham, and Caleb Clarke, have been ruled out of the tour due to injury.

Injury & Recovery Notes

Robertson acknowledged the setbacks due to injury but highlighted the door it has opened for new talent:

“While we’re clearly disappointed for those recovering from injuries, this has created opportunities for a number of deserving players. These men have earned their spot through consistent performance.”

He also noted the return of several previously sidelined players:

  • Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi return after injury.
  • Peter Lakai, Finlay Christie, and Josh Lord are also welcomed back into the squad.
