Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a Rohingya drug trafficker with 120,000 Yaba tablets while he was attempting to enter Bangladesh from Myanmar through the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar.
The matter was confirmed on Tuesday night (November 11) by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Commanding Officer of the Ukhiya Battalion (BGB-64).
The arrested drug trafficker has been identified as Md. Nurul Amin (24), son of Mir Ahmad from Block 11 of the Balukhali Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya.
According to BGB Commander Mohammad Jasim Uddin, based on secret information that a large consignment of drugs would enter Bangladesh through the Whykong Unchiprang BOP area of Teknaf on Tuesday (November 11), a special patrol team took position in the area. At one stage, a man was seen crossing the Naf River from Myanmar and attempting to enter Bangladesh through the Hajir Gher area. When the patrol team challenged him on suspicion, he tried to flee. BGB members then chased and detained him. Upon searching, they recovered 120,000 Yaba tablets from his possession.
The commanding officer added that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the drug suppliers and others involved in the smuggling network. The recovered Yaba tablets and the detained trafficker are being processed for legal action and will be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station.
