Rubio Signs Order to Fast-Track $4 Billion US Military Aid to Israel

WASHINGTON, 2 March 2025 (BSS/AFP) – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Saturday that he had authorised the accelerated delivery of approximately $4 billion in military assistance to Israel, citing emergency powers to ensure swift execution of the aid package.

“I have signed a declaration to use emergency authorities to expedite the delivery of approximately $4 billion in military assistance to Israel,” Rubio stated in a brief announcement. He also confirmed that a partial arms embargo, imposed under former President Joe Biden, had been lifted.

The decision comes amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, where Israel continues to face security challenges. The expedited military aid is expected to include advanced defence systems, ammunition, and other strategic resources aimed at strengthening Israel’s military capabilities.

The reversal of the previous administration’s restrictions signals a significant shift in US policy towards Israel. Under Biden, certain arms shipments had been delayed or subjected to additional scrutiny due to concerns over civilian casualties in the Gaza conflict.

Rubio’s move is expected to garner both domestic and international reactions, with strong backing from pro-Israel lawmakers and criticism from those advocating for stricter conditions on US military aid. The development also underscores Washington’s continued strategic alliance with Israel at a time of heightened regional instability.
