An incident of vandalism has been reported at the revered shrine of Hazrat Baba Shah Satya Pir (R.A.), located in the Satya Pir Bijra area of Thakurgaon municipality. The act, believed to have taken place during the early hours of Saturday morning, has sparked widespread concern, anger, and anxiety among local residents and devotees.
According to local sources, unidentified individuals entered the shrine premises under the cover of darkness and carried out acts of deliberate destruction. The extent of the damage became evident at dawn, when worshippers arrived at the site to perform the Fajr prayers. The sight of the vandalised shrine left many devotees visibly shocked and distressed.
News of the incident spread rapidly throughout the neighbourhood, creating an atmosphere of tension and unease. Residents expressed deep sorrow and outrage, emphasising that the shrine has long stood as a symbol of spiritual solace, harmony, and communal faith in the area. For generations, people from diverse backgrounds have visited the shrine to offer prayers, make vows, and seek spiritual comfort. Many locals firmly believe that their prayers have been answered through devotion at the shrine, further intensifying the emotional impact of the attack.
The General Secretary of the Graveyard and Shrine Committee, Maulana Azizul Islam Babul, strongly condemned the act, describing it as “utterly disgraceful and deeply offensive to religious sentiments.” Speaking to the media, he called for the immediate identification of those responsible and demanded a transparent investigation leading to exemplary punishment. “Such acts not only damage a sacred structure but also threaten social harmony,” he remarked.
In response to the incident, local authorities have initiated preliminary investigative procedures. Senior officials swiftly visited the site following reports of the vandalism. Among those present were the Superintendent of Police of Thakurgaon, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Thakurgaon Sadar, officers from the Detective Branch (DB), personnel from Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station, and members of the 50 BGB Battalion.
Additional Superintendent of Police Khodadad Hossain stated that multiple police teams are actively investigating the matter. “We are examining all possible angles and collecting evidence. The perpetrators will be identified and brought under the full force of the law,” he assured.
Meanwhile, Thakurgaon Sadar UNO Khairul Islam confirmed that he personally inspected the site. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring justice, stating that appropriate legal and administrative measures would be taken once the investigation is complete.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about the security of religious sites in the region, with locals urging authorities to take stronger preventive measures to protect places of worship and preserve communal harmony.
