Among the timeless creations of Rabindranath Tagore, the song “Tui Fele Eshechis Kare” remains one of the most cherished. Despite the passage of decades, its melody continues to resonate with audiences, captivating both the young and the old. The song has now been rendered by the acclaimed Bangladeshi vocalist Saikat Das, accompanied by a fresh musical arrangement by composer Suman Kalyan. The track is scheduled for release this evening (19 February) on Suman Kalyan’s official YouTube channel.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Saikat Das shared,
“One day Suman Kalyan approached me and said, ‘Dada, you have sung many modern songs, but your voice carries the essence of Rabindra Sangeet.’ That conversation inspired me to explore Tagore’s music, and in the process, I fell in love with Rabindra Sangeet all over again.”
Suman Kalyan, the composer, remarked,
“Saikat Da has been performing since the 1970s. His work has inspired countless popular singers, yet he has always remained behind the scenes. Among his repertoire are a few Tagore compositions, and I hope this latest rendition will receive the appreciation it deserves from audiences.”
Saikat Das began performing on Bangladesh Television (BTV) during the 1970s, a period when the channel was transitioning from black-and-white to colour broadcasts in 1980. He regularly lent his voice to numerous BTV programmes, with notable performances including the popular song “Shiulimala”, often featured in shows hosted by renowned actor Alamgir. In addition to television, he performed extensively for Chittagong Radio, cementing his reputation as a versatile vocalist. Today, he continues to perform across various television channels, maintaining his connection with audiences nationwide.
Several of Saikat Das’s songs are awaiting release, and “Tui Fele Eshechis Kare” marks a significant addition to his musical journey.
