Salah Sees Liverpool Hit Embarrassing Record

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has found himself at the centre of an unwelcome record. The Egyptian star, despite his personal form, has now been part of a worrying run for the Reds: in the last eight Premier League matches he has started, Liverpool have lost seven, marking the club’s worst sequence in this context since 2012.

Salah returned to Liverpool last week after Egypt’s disappointing campaign in the Africa Cup of Nations, where the team failed to reach the final. While he maintained a strong individual performance during the tournament, the absence of team success has mirrored Liverpool’s recent struggles domestically.

He started in Liverpool’s 3–0 Champions League victory over Marseille, and his inclusion continued in the Premier League against Bournemouth. However, Liverpool were narrowly defeated 3–2, deepening the embarrassing streak.

The last time Liverpool faced a comparable slump was during Kenny Dalglish’s final period under manager Dark Quit, when the team consistently dropped points between February and May 2012, ultimately finishing eighth in the league.

Recent matches where Salah started have yielded the following results:

Date Opponent Result Salah’s Contribution
23 Sep 2025 Crystal Palace 1–2 L Started
30 Sep 2025 Chelsea 0–1 L Started
7 Oct 2025 Manchester United 1–3 L Started
14 Oct 2025 Brentford 2–3 L Started
21 Oct 2025 Manchester City 1–4 L Started
28 Oct 2025 Nottingham Forest 0–2 L Started
4 Nov 2025 Bournemouth 2–3 L Started
11 Nov 2025 Aston Villa 2–0 W Started, scored 1

From the table, it is clear that Aston Villa were the only side Salah started against that Liverpool managed to defeat, and that match also saw him score his last Premier League goal of the season.

Liverpool currently sit sixth in the Premier League, having collected 36 points from 23 matches. They are 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, with Manchester City occupying second place. Given the current form and point gap, the club’s chances of challenging for the top positions this season appear slim.

While Salah continues to display his usual attacking prowess, the club’s defensive frailties and inconsistency have compounded the Reds’ difficulties. Analysts warn that without improved cohesion and tactical adjustments, Liverpool may struggle to reclaim their traditional status among England’s elite this campaign.
