Renowned folk singer Salma has once again captured the hearts of her audience with her soulful rendition of the song “Pirit-er Ghor”. Originally released four years ago on the Salma Music YouTube channel, the song has recently regained popularity through social media discussions. Written by lyricist Tarek Ananda and composed by Sajib Das, the song has been praised for its heartfelt lyrics and Salma’s emotive voice.
Tarek Ananda shared the song on his Facebook page, noting, “The song is gradually reaching people. Salma’s voice is always beautiful.” Following this, “Pirit-er Ghor” has seen a resurgence, becoming a favourite once again among listeners. The song’s poignant and relatable themes resonate deeply with many, and Salma herself regards it as one of her personal favourites.
In her personal life, Salma has recently undergone significant changes. Following the breakdown of her marriage, she has chosen to embrace life independently, focusing on living on her own terms. Central to this renewed focus is her music, which remains the anchor of her life.
Currently, Salma is fully engaged with stage performances. Last Saturday, she performed at a concert in Cox’s Bazar, accompanied by fellow artist Sabbir Zaman. Prior to that, she held a show in Ashulia, Savar, where her performance received an enthusiastic response from the audience.
A few days ago, Salma celebrated her birthday. Although she admitted that her mood was somewhat subdued on the day, she spent quality time with her daughter, Safia, alongside her parents and brother.
Reflecting on her life and future plans, Salma stated,
“I don’t plan life in too much detail these days. Alhamdulillah, I try to live well as Allah has arranged for me. My primary goal is to raise my children to be good human beings and to nurture my music. Through singing, I have received immense love from people, and I wish to continue nurturing my songs. I aim to deliver new music to my audience and to captivate them through live performances. Beyond music, I have no other thoughts.”
Recently, Salma also expressed her fondness for another popular song on Facebook, “Bhalobashi”, written by E. Mizan with composition and music by Sumon Kalyan. Released in 2021 on the Salma Music YouTube channel, this song has also garnered a distinct and enduring response from fans. Salma revealed that she feels most comfortable performing melancholic songs, and she plans to continue singing this genre in the future.
Recognised in Bangladesh’s music scene as having a “signature voice”, Salma continues to solidify her place in the hearts of her audience through both recordings and live stage performances. Her songs, rich with emotion and cultural resonance, continue to bridge generations of listeners.
